Victorian Christmas at the Simcoe County Museum Events

Experience what Christmas looked, sounded and tasted like during the Victorian era at the Simcoe County Museum December 8th ­to 9th from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Get into the Christmas spirit at the Simcoe County Museum's authentic Victorian Christmas event, with fun for all the family. Stroll along the outdoor lantern-lit pathways and explore the decorated heritage buildings as you warm up with a hot drink. Visitors can be transported through the snowbound forest on a horse-drawn wagon. Inside, you can enjoy a show on the antique Magic Lantern or join in with carolers in their 150-year-old church.

As well, check out one-of-a-kind gifts from local artisans and get your shopping done early this year, or make your own traditional crafts and treats to take home ready for the holidays. Everywhere, you’ll hear the sounds of traditional Christmas music as you sample a Victorian Christmas, complete with some sweets for you to try. You might even see Father Christmas.

Admission is by donation. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Simcoe County Museum, a not-for-profit organization that supports the Museum through fundraising, volunteering and assistance with special events.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring donations for the Barrie Food Bank and the Simcoe County Paramedics’ Christmas Toy Drive.

NOTICE OF A PUBLIC MEETING pursuant to the PLANNING ACT

A ZONING BY-LAW AMENDMENT (Z9-22)

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Essa will hold a Public Meeting on Wednesday the 21st day of December, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Township of Essa Administration Centre, 5786 County Road No. 21, located three (3) kilometres east of Baxter, to consider an Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment under the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.P.13.

THE PURPOSE OF THE MEETING is to review an application for a Zoning By-law Amendment for property known as PLAN 1333 LOT 22. The subject land is designated as ‘Residential’ in the Township of Essa’s Official Plan, 2001, and is zoned ‘Residential, Low Density, Detached’ (R1) within the Township of Essa Zoning Bylaw 2003-50. The applicant is proposing occupation of two (2) currently vacant buildings which are connected by one (1) adjoining wall. The proposed Zoning By-law Amendment would permit the use of the existing structures as a four-unit apartment and a two-unit apartment. A site map has been attached.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION relating to the Zoning By-law Amendment is available for inspection during regular office hours at the Township of Essa Administration Centre, Planning and Development Department (lower level) or through email correspondence directed to Oliver Ward, Junior Planner at planning@essatownship.on.ca

ANY PERSON may attend the meeting and make representation or present submissions respecting these matters.  If a person or public body that files an appeal of a decision of the Township of Essa in respect of the proposed Amendment(s) does not make oral submissions at the public meeting or make written submissions to the Township of Essa before the proposal is approved or refused, the Ontario Land Tribunal may dismiss all or part of the appeal.
